Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and Kate Mosse to be Keynote
Speakers at LBF 2023; Ukraine to be Spotlight Country
The London Book Fair (LBF) has revealed final highlights from its events programme.
Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, will be in conversation with Young Vic Artistic Director
Kwame Kwei-Armah on Wednesday 19th April. They will discuss London’s role as a hub for
the UK’s creative economy; climate change and the role of cities in supporting a more
sustainable future; what the publishing industry can learn from other industries in
supporting sustainability and showcasing best practice; and the Mayor’s own experience
and how this has shaped his upcoming book Breathe: Tackling the Climate Emergency (25
May, Hutchinson Heinemann).

The seminar programme will also feature a series of events as part of the Guest Spotlight
on Ukraine. Created in partnership with the Ukrainian Book Institute, English PEN, the
Publishers Association (PA), International Publishers Association (IPA) and the British
Council, these conversations will consider how Ukrainian writers have responded to the
war, the role that books play in the fight against disinformation and for democracy, the
role of women’s voices in these discussions, and writing from the front line. There will
also be a stand showcasing the rich variety of contemporary Ukrainian publishing located
at stand number 2B01.

THE 11TH PUSHKIN HOUSE BOOK PRIZE

2023 marks the eleventh year of the Pushkin House Book Prize, which aims to encourage,
support and award authors who contribute to our understanding of Russia’s complex
culture, history and people, including the new realities since 24 February 2022.
PH announced the distinguished judges who will make up this year’s panel:
Philip Bullock is Professor of Russian Literature and Music at the University of Oxford,
Fellow and Tutor in Russian at Wadham College, and a former academic director of the
Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities (TORCH). He received the 2009 Philip
Leverhulme Prize for Modern Languages.
Masha Gessen is a Russian-American journalist and author. They are a staff writer for The
New Yorker and a professor of writing at Bard College. Gessen is a recipient of the
National Book Award for The Future Is History: How Totalitarianism Reclaimed Russia
(2017), a Leipzig Book Fair Prize for European Understanding, as well as a Guggenheim
Fellowship, an Andrew Carnegie Fellowship, a Nieman Fellowship and many other prizes.
Alexander Rodnyansky is a Ukrainian film producer whose projects with director Andrey
Zvyagintsev include Elena (2011), Leviathan (2014) and Loveless (2017); Beanpole (2019)
with Kantemir Balagov and Unclenching the Fists (2021) with Kira Kovalenko. He was
nominated for the Academy Award twice, won the Golden Globe for Leviathan, the Grand
Prix of Un Certain Regard for Unclenching the Fists and the César Award for Loveless.
Professor Mary Elise Sarotte is a leading expert on foreign policy and the inaugural holder
of the Kravis Chair at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in
Washington, DC. She won the Pushkin House Book Prize 2022 for Not One Inch: America,
Russia, and the Making of the Post-Cold War Stalemate (Yale University Press, 2021).
Ekaterina Schulmann is a Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Foundation
in Berlin. She was previously an associate professor at the Moscow School of Social and
Economic Sciences. Her writing includes Legislation as a Political Process (2014) and Not
Just a Rubber Stamp (2018).
A shortlist of six books will be announced in the spring, followed by an awards ceremony in
the summer where the winner of the Pushkin House Book Prize 2023 will be announced.

Грузии, Кыргызстане и других странах.
28 февраля 2022 года Роскомнадзор заблокировал в России сайт канала в связи
с освещением вторжения России в Украину. Канал по-прежнему доступен
российской аудитории на Youtube и в социальных сетях.
Следуя за запуском новостного канала Украина24, в конце весны 2022 г. канал
Настоящее Время был в запущен в Великобритании на Freeview, канал 271, а
также через мобильные приложения Channelbox.
